Day 2 opinions ...

Opinions of the trip to Münster:

Max Müller (Germany): It was really impressive, because of the many bikes. It was good that we had so much freedom to go around there. I don’ t like the long ways of the university, because they are really too long.

Carolina Torres Alemán (Spain): It was really interesting, because we saw the most important monuments in the city. Then we have a bit of time for fun and we enjoyed looking for some shops. It was a nice day that I had with my friends…

Kira Mulcahy (England): It was fun looking around the very historic city and seeing all the monuments and buildings. I also liked that after the tour we were able to go shopping and look around ourselves and we could buy souvenirs for our families. Also I made lots of new friends so it was a very good day!!!!!!  :)

Sofia Netti (Italia) : I was impressed by the beauty of the cathedral of Münster. It´s a very nice city, full of many monuments and building. I enjoyed going around all together in the city. The journey was a bit too long but we could speak and have fun a lot. It´s a very good day J

Imke van Dijk (the Netherlands): The stories of the historical buildings were not very interesting but the buildings were beautiful and just a little bit interesting. I liked it to go shopping in the city centre with my new friends !! And the train was funny because I´ve talked a lot with the people from different countries. It was a nice day!!

Today we went to the city of Münster. At 9.07 we took the train to Bielefeld. There, we had to take a train at 9.58 but we took a train to Düsseldorf. As someone saw that this train didn’t go to Münster all students and teachers were very scared. We arrived in Bochum and then we changed the train back to Hamm. In Hamm we took the right train to Münster and we reached Münster at 12.30. When  we arrived we were divided in 3 groups to do a tour around the city. There were a lot of bikes, and the guide told us that most of the people had 2 bikes. We visited some churches and the cathedral of Münster which was very beautiful. After the tour, we were divided again in groups of 4 or more people. We had 2 hours to go shopping, eat something and buy souvenirs. It was very fun and interesting. 

First we made a sightseeing-tour with a tour guide trough Münster. The tour guide showed us historic Münster. We saw very huge, old buildings, but we had to be very careful, because if you only are looking on these amazing houses you will get into an accident with a bike. In Münster there are many bikes and you have to be very careful. After the sightseeing-tour we had time to go shopping or to eat something. We were searching for a Kebab Shop and in a little street we found one. Some ate a kebab and some ate a pizza. It was really delicious and everyone was well-fed...

The Spanish wanted to buy gifts and souvenirs, and so we went to a gift and souvenir shop. Not only the Spanish bought something there, also the German bought something for their friends and their families. We had to find our way back to the train station, but we are really smart and so we found the way back :)

The journey back to Lemgo was not so exciting, because we took the right trains and reached our destination.

In the evening most students were very tired and went home to sleep, but some even did something like watching a film or looking around their new home…

Day 1 opinions ....

Opinions of the treasure hunt:

Mrs Anelli (Italy): It was a good start, because it offers the opportunity to meet other students in a nice way. They start collaborating before the real work

Felix Türke (Germany): It was a nice trip but it was a bit difficult to talk with the others because we did not know the others. In my opinion the way we had to go was a little too long.

Elena Santacreu (Spain): In my opinion I think that the treasure hunt was very good because we saw the most important things of Lemgo. It was very funny.

Rebecca Galbraith (Great-Britain): Monday was fun because we got to travel around the town and see what there was in Lemgo. I think I would have liked to go to the swimming pool if I had the chance.

Mr Pérez (Spain): I think that the treasure hunt was a beautiful experience, because all the students were working together and at the same time we learn something about the beautiful town of Lemgo.

Day 1 Treasure Hunt

It was the arrival day, but just the Italians and the Spanish had arrived, they arrived on Sunday. We met the Netherlands and the English at 1 o’clock after the lessons in the forum. We had lunch together and so we also made new friends from different countries. Then, we were divided in 6 groups to do a treasure hunt. It took 2 hours and we were walking to different sights in Lemgo like the ‘Junkerhaus’ or the St. Nicolai church. With this game all the students learned something about Lemgo: The Germans learned more things about their town and the exchange partners learned how the life in Lemgo and the culture of the town is. Teachers and teenagers were very excited about the new experience and all were interested in that.

At 4 o’clock we finished the game and went to the forum again. There, the parents were waiting for us to go home. Then at home some students watched films, others went cycling or finding out what their exchange partners hobbies were. And at last the host families ate something with their guests and then the guests (they were very tired because of the long journey to Germany) went to bed…

Thursday 20th March 2014

This was a day to reflect on the Comenius project and to prepare presentations. Everyone was in groups working on different aspects of it. The two of us were adding many diary entries and photos to this blog about the week in Germany. We had many techincal dificulties as we had to understand the computer commands in German! Others were finalising example t-shirts or creating newspaper articles. We did lots of work on the UN Convention rights of the child. It was a long day but very rewarding.

Over lunch, we went out into the city of Lemgo and we had delicious ice cream and we also went shopping with our lovely new friends!

We used this map to find our way around the town of Osnabrück when we had free time - we saw some great places and also had ice-cream!! Our map-reading skills need some work.... we nearly got lost!

Here is a group of Spanish Comenius 3Rs students in Osnabrück train station before going to see the Felix Nussbaum Museum.  They are looking forward to the visit and are very excited!

Oaklands' Comenius Display in England

This board is displayed in a very busy area of the school. We chose this area so that lots of people could see what we have done and what the project is about. Lots of students are interested in the project and are keen to enter the competitions or join our International Club. The display has been an inspiration for people to get involved. It has information about all the partner schools too with a map showing where they are located.

The interpretation of this picture is that he is both hopeful and sad because of the positive and negative aspects. But also that he is hiding, who he really is and doesn't think what is happening to him is right. There are many more hidden meanings that we discovered in this painting whilst at the museum. DAY 3 - 19th March

We woke up at 7 o’clock and for breakfast had salami, cheese and a banana. We met at the train station at 9:15 and got on the train to Osnabrück. It took about an hour and a half to get there. When we arrived, we had an English group photo and then we split into groups. One group went straight to the museum but the rest of us went around town in smaller groups shopping! It was quite difficult to navigate! Some of us got drinks from Starbucks, while others sat in a marketplace with yummy pretzels (or brezels as they’re called in German).

After shopping, we visited the Felix Nussbaum Museum. He was a Jewish artist who painted during the time of the Second World War. He was always fleeing from persecution by the Nazis. The museum was an architectural masterpiece because it was built as a rigid maze of concrete walls. This was to show the tricky and discriminative pathway that Felix’s life followed. His pictures all were verysad and had and air of misery about them as he had lived through the First World War and was living persecuted during the Second.

After the museum we still had time to go to some more shops and we bought some presents for our families like some bike shaped pasta and some yummy german chocolate. We bought ice-creams and eat them on our way back to the station. Our map reading skills weren’t very good so we nearly got lost several times. In the evening some of us went out with our exchange partners. We went to Pizza Hut and into some German shops e.g. New Yorker and Pimkie. A different group also met up in a cafe called the beat cafe. We tried new drinks like Kiba (cherry and banana juice mixed) it was heaven!!!!!!! We also had some old favourite foods like Ben and Jerry’s: they love ice cream in Germany too. We made lots of new friends from Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. Sadly there were no Italians there. We all exchanged e-mails and phone numbers and hope to stay in contact when we go home.

Comments from each nationality:

Lieke (the Netherlands) – Yesterday after Osnabrück we went kegeln (bowling). Before that we had eaten pizza with the whole group (15 people) and it was really nice! The game (kegeln) was also fun! We laughed a lot and it was a really nice game.

Tjorven (Germany) - Yesterday was a great day! We learnt a lot about  paintings and saw interesting buildings.It was very fun! The building was a spectacular architecture and you could feel how Felix Nussbaum life was. It was so amazing. The evening was very good, because we made new friends.

Cristina (Spain)- The museum had a very interesting building with strange forms. It also was a little bit scary because behind the museum there was a prison.

Matisse (England)- Yesterday we visited Osnabrück and went to a very interesting art museum. We learnt  about a Jewish painter and his story in the war. I was taught a lot of new and exciting facts and it was a great and very informative trip!!!

Matteo (Italy)- The museum in Osnabrück was very interesting and very informative for me.   I love visting other countries  and yesterday was a great day!

GERMANY, AT LAST!

THE SPANISH STUDENTS FROM CLARET SCHOOL IN GRAN CANARIA  HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED IN GERMANY AFTER A LONG AND TIRING JOURNEY, TO ENJOY A WEEK FULL OF EXCITEMENT, CULTURE, LANGUAGE AND LEARNING. THE PROJECT 3R'S IS HELPING OUR SCHOOL TO LIVE NEW EXPERIENCES  . THANK YOU TO THE SCHOOL IN GERMANY, THEIR TEACHERS AND FAMILIES FOR WELCOMING US SO NICELY!
